for you lucky nyc’ers.

I just LOOVOE trunk shows!

mi case es su casa.

I’ve been debating forever on whether or not I should post pics of my own house. I’m sure you understand my dilemma: what if it’s not good enough, fun enough, fabulous enough? But you know, I love real houses the most. The kind that aren’t styled, aren’t professionally photographed, but are just real. And cute. And fabulous in that raw sort of way.

So here goes. My bedroom:

avalon.

So. I have a thing for hotels. A big thing, actually. Something about the white towels and linens that are always crisp, but never uninviting. The problem? I hate traveling. I love my couch, and tourist attractions have just never really tickled my fancy.

But the Avalon? For THIS, I would travel to Sweden, where I know of nothing, other than the fact that it’s in some way related to IKEA. But can you blame me? The fabulous interiors, the spacious rooms? Whew. I’m headed to check flight prices…

trash luxe.

I’ve been counting down the days for the exhibition Trash Luxe to finally appear in Liberty, London, and it’s OFFICIALLY time. Not that it matters, because L.A. is a bit more than a hop/skip to London, but still. I just love knowing that it’s visible to some.

The show features furniture, lighting, homewares and jewelery created by young designers who use cheap or worthless materials to form luxury products.

Seriously. Where are these people BORN??? Spectacular.

3191.

Power duo Steph and Mav of 3191 have a pretty awesome thing goin.

Two early risers photographing their A.M. memories. Sunrises, beautiful photography and an unexplainable human connection despite the 3k miles between them.

What could be better?

marye kelley.

While posting John Derian’s work a few days ago, I couldn’t help but think of Marye Kelley. Yes, I know I’m playing with fire by cheating on my first love, but Melinda of Marye Kelley is just SOOOO talented.

Melinda’s work has been featured in Country Living numerous times, as well as House Beautiful. She decoupages everything from tissue boxes to plates, wastebaskets to letter boxes. Take a look and you’ll see what I’m raving about! See more of her fabulous work here.

pass the tableaux cloths, please.

Holy crap. How did I NOT know about Mark Cutler and his ingenuity? I LOVE love this tablecloth and can’t wait to score one of my own. In fact, I’m thinking of overhauling my dining area and revamping the color scheme so that these beauties will match my decor.

Either way, I’ve got to have them! Thanks, Mark!

readers write: kitchen makeover

A reader of mine over at Curbly posted a detailed ‘how-to’ of her recent kitchen makeover. Forced with limited ideas to give her rental a facelift, check out how she accomplished a super cool kitchen in just a few bucks:

“I just HAD to do something about those white laminate cabinets. I was pretty restricted due to us living in a rental. This required pretty minimal drilling and looks so good that my landlord was ecstatic.”

“I purchased sheets of gauge stainless steel from the duct department of the hardware store. I cut it down to size for each cabinet door and filed all the edges so that they couldn’t slice a finger. I used 400 grit sandpaper on the steel in a circular motion to make the steel look “brushed”. I purchased 3/4″ #10 nuts and bolts to fasten them on for a cool industrial look. I used a 1/4″ drill bit to make a hole 1″ square from each corner and did the same in the sheet metal. Then I simply bolted them on w/ the nut on the outside and reattached the handles.”

“I found this brass chandelier on the side of the road. It had an on/off switch on the base that had decomposed from age. I took it apart, cleaning the brass thoroughly, and gutted the old switch housing from the inside. I then disconnected the wiring from the switch to hook all the lamps to one positive and one negative cord that would lead to the ceiling electric hookup. I sanded the metal w/ 400 grit paper and spray painted it black. I purchased a black chain to hang it with and hooked it up to the ceiling source and added a dimmer to control it.”

[love it.]

i veer, you veer.

Holy crap. I LOOOVE Veer. And so obviously, I love when Veer sends me updates on all the latest goods and merch. Especially when it involves wrapping paper.

I’m a sucker for the wrapping. So much that our entire guest room in California is dedicated to one thing: giftwrap. I’ll post pictures someday, when I’m ready to incriminate my anal organizational habits.

But for now, check out the latest giftwrap from Veer right here. Absolutely adorable.
