Kathleen Plate, owner of Smart Glass Jewelry in Atlanta, got her big break when beauty company Aveda placed a $50,000 order for earrings, made from its blue bottles, to sell at its headquarters.
And now? Coca-Cola has recently commissioned a line made from its bottles to sell online and at its new World of Coca-Cola attraction. Available now, right here.
[Thanks, Pink!]

Flickr is a godsend, that’s no doubt. But when I see collections like this one, from Daily Poetics, Flickr just reaches a whole nother level. [Is 'nother' a word? Don't think so].
[Thanks, Heather!]

Ok here’s the thing. I LOVE Urban Outfitters. Not for its fabulously original fashion, b/c that’s debatable. But the furnish/entertain sections of U.O’s site are just fun. And I love that for a few hundred bucks you can gear up for a new season by switching out some key items. Seriously, it’s too inexpensive NOT to. Tell that to your husbands, k?
Check out a few of my favorites, available now.

Welcome, new readers; thanks for visiting!
Design for Mankind is a site dedicated to ‘the little things.’ I believe design can embody much more than interiors and it is my hope that this site can contribute to the broadening of the routine ‘design’ definition.
In the following entries, you’ll find good design in architecture, fashion, photographs, stationary, art… maybe even food. I find so much inspiration on a daily basis, and if you’ve found something equally inspiring, let me know! I’d love to feature what motivates you as well.
Feel free to check back often; I post as many as 5-10 entries daily. The more, the merrier! Also, I loooooooove comments, emails, letters, questions, concerns… the whole shebang. Contact me anytime.
Love to you all,
-e

Ok, this is a tad embarrassing. I swore to myself that I would not clue the world into my awkward fascination with 1963, specifically the Airstream. But how can I possibly keep my vow when DWR introduces this beauty?
I’m in absolute amazement. Beautiful design elements, beautiful finishes. And one fabulous mode of transportation.
Airstream: I confess to the world. I am truly, madly, deeply in love with you.
[Wow. I can't believe I just quoted Savage Garden from the 90's. Whew. I won't go THERE yet.]

This week’s hat tip goes to Uppercase NYC for creating one of the most fun, inspiring and wordy Flickr collections to date. Great work, Uppercase!

Am loving this inspirational collection from art teacher and pencil collector Bob Truby.
For the risk of sounding like my grandfather, “they just don’t make ‘em like they used to, Thelma.”
