living room

This is Marion’s living room. Holy crap, yes. Yes, yes, yes. Love it in a big way. Modern, but not stark and cold.

Yummy.

Marion was kind enough to give DFM a sneak peak into her home, and I’m just FLOORED. Get ready for some serious visionary sweets here— more to come!

it’s TIME…

No joke. The BIG REVEAL is upon us. I am SO SO excited, so I’m going to get straight to the point:

For the past month, I’ve been working with some FASCINATING members of the design community to compile DFM’s FIRST-EVER…

E-ZINE!

It’s free. It’s downloadable. It’s my gift to you. Keep it, share it, spread the word, or use it as giftwrap. Do what you will, but know that it’s my thanks to you, the bloggers/readers/designers/artists/etc, for inspiring me DAILY.

Special thanks to my flickr friends for ALL of your help!

Email me ASAP at designformankind@gmail.com if you’d like to be involved in Issue #2— I’ve already started compiling the goods!

Click here to download all twenty pages, chock full of inspiration.

Love to you.
[p.s. I'm going to take a much needed blogger's break today, but I'll be back Friday to hear how much you loved the e-zine!]

[EDIT: 2/8/08-- For those of you that attempted to download the zine yesterday and had trouble, the link is fixed. Download away!!! :)]

bang bags.

Ok, DFM, I’ve got two questions for you:

1. How EXCITED are you for THE BIG REVEAL at MIDNIGHT TONIGHT?!!! I just know you’re all setting your alarms… ME TOO! :)

2. What do you get when you cross a bird with a bag?

BANG BAGS! Ana from Bang bags sent me the cutest email today and I’ve been trying to decide which handmade bag to purchase! I’m loving them all in a BIG way.

I’m always amazed by artists that consistently raise the bar. Bags shaped like animals are some of my favorite things, and this handmade take on an otherwise normal tote is just SO creative.

Click here to shop Bang bags on their website, or right here at Etsy. Tell Ana you came over from DFM and maybe she’ll give you a bit of special treatment. ;)

That’s it for tonight… until THE BIG REVEAL, that is! ;)

Call it Pick-Up Stix for the grown-up botanist. Available right here, right now.

just another day.

Courtney from Just Another Day is one of my heroes. Ok, heroine, I guess, but by typing that word I’ve just Google Searched my way to one of the top drugrunning blogs in history.

Eh. Maybe they’ll get a dose of good design when they come.

Anyway, I love love love ‘Just Another Day.’ I can always count on Courtney to have something very ‘of the moment,’ but with a touch of retro vintage. The perfect mix in my book!

Right now, Courtney is hosting an Etsyversary Sale (Happy 1 Year, Courtney!) where all of her items are buy two, get one free. A super deal, especially since her regular prices are totally reasonable.

Click here to shop til you drop! Thanks, Courtney!

tilly bloom.

Yummy. I so badly want each of these jewelry pieces. So badly that I’m thinking of reciting a very, very memorable and quazi-annoying song that I’ve picked up from a certain Veruca Salt.

I’ll spare you, but trust me, I’m singing it in my head.

I love the vintage and French-inspired jewelry, but sometimes feel like it ages me. But these pieces? Yes, yes, and yes, please. All are fabulous, all are perfect for putting the edge back into your favorite tee.

Click here to shop Tilly Bloom’s Etsy shop, and give her a big hello from DFM!

I want it nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww (ok couldn’t help myself).

plastique monkey.

Ok yeah, this stuff is weird. But I love it in such a big way!

Seriously, sometimes I show Husband these artists and he wonders when I got so freaking morbid, and I have to tell him it’s his fault for making me move to Los Angeles and abandon my Midwestern Wholesomeness.

Either that, or it’s Plastique Monkey’s fault for totally brainwashing me into someone who wears pants AND a skirt at the same time and says things like “enviably groovy” and reads Tolstoy.

That’s probably not even true, but I’m the Queen of Excuses. And who knows, maybe Plastique Monkey loved ‘War and Peace.”

Click here to shop this enviably groovy site.
