Design For Mankind

thank you, irene!

I just love being a special guest on Bloesem, because I feel so so important! Irene manages to round up the best of the best each week, so naturally, I’m flattered that I’m included in her ‘Design Museum’ feature, which asks a few of Irene’s favorite designers/bloggers/artists to showcase their favorite design finds in their own home.

Enjoy, and give Irene some love while you’re there— this is such a fantastic feature!

ahhh, genius idea.

Question: Why didn’t I think of this?
Answer: Because I’m not nearly as cool as Yar Rassadin.

joe davis.

You’ve probably heard of Joe from his famous ‘I Made Tea’ project, but did you realize what a talented photographer he is as well?

Just beautiful.

One of my favorite things to do is peruse artist sketchbooks, where you’re sure to find never-before-seen goodies. It’s like walking into a behind-the-scenes take of your favorite film— you get a glimpse of the entire picture and see just how inspired the artist is at any given moment.

In other words, the sketchbook of Shen Plum.

the dailies: sian keegan.

Whee! Another Daily! In case you’re unfamiliar, The Dailies is a series in which your favorite artists/designers take us on a tour of their daily life. Today’s lovely spotlight is the life of Sian Keegan, one of my VERY favorite pattern designers and crafter extroadinaire. I first fell in love with Sian by reading her blog and the love blossomed from there. I’m so so excited to share her day with you! Take it away, Sian!

I wake up at around 6:30 with this little dumpling, Ollie.  I get ready for work and then take him for a quick walk around the neighborhood.

I walk to the 15th Street/Prospect Park F train stop around 9:00.  This is the view from the subway.  I spend a lot of my day on the F train!

I make it to work around 10.  I work at a textile company in midtown Manhattan.  I start the day working on some color stories for our Spring 2010 collection.

I was so happy to get an invited to the Anna Sui Spring 2009 show in Bryant Park…I go later tonight but don’t bring my camera, doh!  I found a photo of one of my favorite prints.  I love that Alexander Girard was part of the inspiration for the collection.

I get home to Ollie around 9.  I play with him for a while to get the craziness out of him.

I work on a little craft project, and then we head to bed around 11:30.  We fight over the pillow for a little while before falling asleep.

Ohhh, what a dear Sian and Ollie are!

apak.

Apak makes some of my favorite stationery, and I’d totally snatch this notecard up if I could only find my address book in the mounds of boxes I have yet to sort through.

dallas shaw.

I’ve posted about dear Dallas before, but couldn’t possibly turn down a sweet email from an old friend. She’s recently released a new series of vintage keys that are just perfect. I’d love a few in my future kitchen.
