art in the everyday: ticket stub design.

Mixed media artist Mia Liu creates sculptures out of ticket stubs and other miscellaneous paper. Check out a few of her latest pieces in her Flickr set here. Amazing!

ann carrington.

Ann Carrington makes horn sculptures from silverware (she was recently mentioned on 9 By Design, which I’m hopelessly addicted to, by the way).

Thanks, Cindy!

inspiration only.

How sweet is Nidhi’s inspiration board above? I haven’t kept an inspiration board in forever, as I’m strictly an online gal and keep crazy inspiration files with my various bookmarking tools.

But, I’ve got to infuse color somewhere in my home, and what better way to do that with my favorite tear sheets and colored masking tape (I normally file my tear sheets in a binder, but am slowly getting used to the idea of displaying them proudly)?

I’m sold.

alisha amirkhanian.

Alisha Amirkhanian‘s paintings and drawings are so French it kills me. I love!

colina strada handbags.

Colina Strada is the [stylish] brainchild of sweet L.A.-based Hillary Taymour. I loooove her sculptural take on handbags. Great work, Hillary!

pin it forward.

In lieu of today’s juxtaposition, I’m sharing what home means to me as part of Vic’s Pin it Forward project. Vic kindly asked me to kickstart another one of her insanely over-achieving social media projects, and I humbly agreed.

The participant list and line-up are here (along with a brief description/guidelines of the project) if you’d like to follow along, and the project involves my new favorite bookmarking tool: Pinterest.

So, what does home mean to me? Visit my pinboard here to find out (hint: it involves a few of my favorite things from dirty feet on clean sheets to laundry on a clothesline!).

And now? I pass my pinboard torch along to JennyM! Thanks for coordinating another fun little mash-up, Vic!

p.s. All image credits listed in pinboard!

weekend mash-up.

It’s been a busy week here (with some great news!), so I’ll be laying low over the weekend. On my to do list?:

1. Find a way to get these shoes.
2. Tell everyone I know that Donald Duck’s middle name is Fauntleroy.
3. Watch this video, again and again. And again.
4. Draw an egg on my leg [image credit above].
5. Print out a few of these Save bookmarks (genius!).
6. Figure out how the heck Catherine did this.
7. Read a book that requires this much highlighting.
8. Fold some paper, perhaps?

What are your plans? Happy weekend!

elsewhere.

Happy Friday! Here’s a random sampling of my ramblings throughout the web. Sort of rhymed, yes?:

-The Tunnel House at ReadyMade Mag (image above)
-Matchmaker, Matchmaker at ReadyMade Mag
-Mega-Renovation, Start to Finish at HGTV (my new Wednesday column!)
-Guest Curator: Design for Mankind at Etsy
-Quirk: Cutting Boards at The House That DFM Built

follow erin on HGTV!

Big news, dear readers! HGTV has caught wind of our tiny little renovation diary over here and will be joining the fun! Every Wednesday, check out Design Happens, where Husband and I will be posting videos, photos and more tracking the progress of our lovely little abode.

The first post is up (be kind!) right here.

And don’t worry; I’ll still be updating this space daily with fun ideas (more with a design-slant, of course, as I know construction bores you to tears…)!

Until then, enjoy your weekend! We have quite a bit of work to do (as you’ll see in the vid!)…
