Design For Mankind

blank slate.

I feel I’m often in inspiration overload mode every time I hop online, so I have a secret desire to keep my home incredibly minimal in an effort to balance the color/patterns I run into via Internet. Of course, I like to collect too many things to keep a truly minimal home, but this image has me craving a clean slate to wake up to daily:

Beautiful, yes?

attitude measuring leggings.

Ha! This made me chuckle a bit.

The ‘Show Me the Word’ leggings measures your attitude by the length of your skirt, from demure to femme fatale.

Brilliant.

Chelsea creates psychedelic stars out of recycled magazines. Simply amazing.

weekend mash-up.

It’s another hot summer Friday and I’ve got big plans to do nothing at all! Perhaps I’ll hole up inside and figure out just how Libraryman manages to be so awesome. Or read more about the brilliant Kubideh Kitchen while craving a wooden geode to don during my hypothetical visit to the Mixed Greens exhibit in NYC.

Or perhaps I’ll craft some funky glasses, all the better of which to see these dreamy international boat code flags with. And then? Then, I’ll shop the Oil Spill Response market at Poppytalk (I’ve got my eye on this June Craft piece!). While I’ve got my credit card out, maybe I’ll talk myself into that Collection magazine I’ve been craving.

Lastly? I’d love to teach myself to paint like Dane Lovett while sitting in front of a glamorous little OTTO fan and an open window. Blissful, yes?

What will you do this weekend?

mobile art.

Hanna Sandin’s art is reminiscent of the coolest mobiles around. I love the flat movement (I made that term up, but it works in my head)!

join me this sunday…

…because yours truly will be guest judging HGTV’s Design Star on Twitter! Join me at 10PM / 9PM Central for the show; I’ll be on Twitter live-tweeting my thoughts, favorites and more alongside Heather Armstrong. Fun, yes? Say you’ll join me.

Watch the preview right here (I’m so excited!) and meet me Sunday night with your Twitter hashtag #designstar in hand! I’ll be giving away goodies for the hour, so grab your lucky hat and join me!

Have a lovely weekend until then!

painted driftwood.

A simple concept, but the execution is magnificent. If I wasn’t so afraid of color in my home, I’d scatter these beauties everywhere!

matchbook sticky notes.

Adorable. These sweet little sticky notes come in their own little matchbook for purse-sized organization.

Perfect for the next time a Southern cowboy asks you to light his Marlboro.
