Today’s Daily is just a bundle of fun. Artist Andrea Heimer is a long-time fave of mine and I just love welcoming a fellow hipster onto the blog! Andrea joins us this morning to talk about what a REAL day is like for her… [thank you, dear!]

9:30 a.m.
Oh hi! Wow, Saturday. Saturdays are usually kind of busy. Our cat, Noodle, sleeps in the exact same spot on the bed every night. Today is no exception. She stirs when we first wake up, but she’s like a bird in that if you throw a blanket over her she’ll think it’s night time and go back to sleep. Blanket is flung. Noodle, “Zzzzzz.”
10:00 a.m.
Mark and I wander around being morning zombies for awhile. We realize we have tons of stuff to do today. We begin limbering up and heckling each other. I get ready to go to the barn to say hello to our horse, Uzi. He’s a 10 year old Pony of the Americas gelding. As I’m looking for my barn boots I unload some drawings from the Coveted series out of the car and add them to my website.

11:00 a.m.
All ready to go! We step out the door and immediately parts of our body begin to melt off. It is a million degrees outside. Mark gives me a sideways look and I consider complaining about the heat. But it’s too hot to form the words. My face would melt off. I gesture weakly at the sun.
11:30 a.m.
Hi Uzi! Uzi got new shoes a few days ago and we’re checking to see how he’s moving with them. We don’t do too much because the arena is hot and dusty. Uzi gets hosed down afterwards and a banana for his efforts. I’ve tried to photograph him eating bananas in the past but seriously, it is like photographing a strike of lighting. One second the banana is there, plainly visible in my hand. The next moment it has been sucked into his mouth at such a velocity that only the lingering banana scent remains.

Afterwards we let him loose in the arena because when you’re a pony, rolling in the dirt while wet is the best thing ever invented.
1:00 p.m.
Um, did I mention it’s hot? I relay this information to Mark who nods grimly and drives us to the lake. Now, I’m a lot of things but a swimmer is not one of them. Even when it’s hot it takes some serious mental preparation to get all the way in the water. Today thought, no problem. It’s either get in the lake or slowly bake in the sun like a massive um…something that bakes in the sun. Too hot to think. Water, here we come.
Mark has no problem, but check my technique. I call it reverse-frantic-dog-paddle-oh-god-I’m-going-to-drown.
3:00 p.m.
We get home and Mark goes off to work on some tunes. He’s working on a new album (hear the current four albums here). I put the finishing touches on some paintings I’ve been working on. In this case all the hard work is done and I’m just applying their clear protective coat. I usually have several different series of artwork going all the time. These in particular are from Pop Portraits which I started in 2006 and is still going strong!
I add two older paintings from 2007 to the website as well. These (as well as the new ones above) are original works priced at under $100. When I started making art seriously a few years ago one of my goals was to keep prices affordable. I know ‘affordable’ is a relative term, especially when talking about something like art, but I really hope it is accessible for most. So far it seems I’m catching the eye of the kind of people who are just starting their art collections or looking to really accessorize their houses for the first time or even looking to change things up after remodeling. It’s been awesome to talk with people about their plans for their art and homes.
6:00 p.m.
Remember when I said Mark was the genius behind the wonderful music of No-Fi Soul Rebellion? Well, I’m also in the band and we’re playing in Seattle tonight so we gather our equipment, which consists of the Soul System (the non-guitar realized air guitar), bass guitar, gnarly gray amp, our outfits, and purple heart-shaped jingle bells. We eat dinner and hop in the van. Seattle or bust!
9:00 p.m.
We arrive and goldbrick around with some friends before the show. Hi friends!
12:00ish??
No-Fi Soul Rebellion hits the stage! For those who haven’t seen No-Fi Soul Rebellion it’s difficult to explain, probably because it’s easy to over think it. I think it’s best described as watching a teenage kid jump around and rock out in their bedroom when no one’s watching—Mark is a seriously great front man. He has been doing No-Fi since 2001 and has perfected crowd control. Mark also writes, records, and plays ever single thing you hear on his albums and is truly a one man operation. We met in Missoula, Montana when I saw him perform and it was love at first site, no kidding. After a few lineup changes he invited me to be the other half of his band. We got married at a gas station/wedding chapel in Idaho on the way to a show. It was the best thing I’ve ever done.

We drive back home after the show. It’s quiet and dark the whole way back. Good night.

I realize I just posted about Andrea a few days ago, but I can’t contain my excitement for her great news. I love love love when artists create everyday extensions of their work. It’s hard for me to find space on my walls for more art, but I can ALWAYS handle a little bit of art in my shoes, bags and tea towels.
