Design For Mankind

weekend mash-up.

OK, so I have quite a bit in my inspiration files this week and time’s a tickin’, so I’ll do my best to make this brief. First of all? I’m headed to Indianapolis tonight to enjoy a minor league baseball game with my family (so excited!). I plan to indulge in copious amounts of popcorn, a giant hot dog with mustard, some lemonade and maybe even an ice cream cone. You know, or three.

But first? I know I say this ALL of the time, but I fell in love this week. Namely over this Triva’s Pursuit tea towel at Third Drawer Down, which is my favorite spot for unique textiles. I’ll say it again: my birthday is in August, and $40 will make me a very happy girl. Also, I’ll pay you to buy it for me. Yep, stew on that logic for a bit.

Other cutie finds? A sweet ‘We need quiet time’ print (which is soooo true), a great reminder to eat, the new Alyson Fox collection at Ink Dish (you know I love some Alyson Fox!), and a lovely, summery photo.

And you know, when you’re done perusing those, check out crayon portraits, red accents and fabric balls. Oh! And animal clutches! Yes!

Happy Friday!

p.s. Ever wondered why famous people cross out their last name on their personal stationery? The answer is simple.

After a lazy week here at DFM, I’m off to New York for a mini vacation (and to speak at Blog Out Loud Monday; will you be there?!)! I’m so excited to meet so many of you, and BklynContessa has been kind enough to throw a party in my honor Sunday (again, will you be there?!).

It’s sure to be a whirlwind affair, and I’m excited to meet so many of my favorite people that live in the city. Until then, however, I’m stocking up on mags, planning outfits (love this one!) and packing light jumping on my suitcase in hopes it will contain my goodies.

I’ll be bringing my walking shoes and hope to score some vintage goodies (with my dear friend Jess) or a cutie pillow at Fred Red. Between meetings, perhaps I’ll so sight-seeing and spot vertical gardens, fool someone, eat some mixed nuts, or gear up for some napkin sketching on a pretty little twine table.

And then? Maybe I’ll write love notes in my moleskine. Happy weekend, all!

Whew! I’m tired today, so my weekend plans will likely involve some quiet moments and tall glasses of iced green tea. Perhaps I’ll sit on my back patio, contemplating smart things like the bare essentials of the graphic designers or crafty things like turning my favorite Hammocks and High Tea tea towel into a pillow cover.

And then? I’m sure my mind will drift away to the many creative people out there, doing their many creative things. Like Jag’s new (adorable) origami poster and upcoming mad tea party. Or Zerihun, who makes organic shoes from used rubber car tires (and they’re lovely!). Or Maria and Nuria, who managed to remind each of us, beautifully, that I am in the place where I am. And of course, Octavilla, who transformed their magazine stash into a lovely wall installation.

Rest easy, folks. Enjoy your weekend and I’ll see you back here Monday!

It’s been a busy week here (with some great news!), so I’ll be laying low over the weekend. On my to do list?:

1. Find a way to get these shoes.
2. Tell everyone I know that Donald Duck’s middle name is Fauntleroy.
3. Watch this video, again and again. And again.
4. Draw an egg on my leg [image credit above].
5. Print out a few of these Save bookmarks (genius!).
6. Figure out how the heck Catherine did this.
7. Read a book that requires this much highlighting.
8. Fold some paper, perhaps?

What are your plans? Happy weekend!

Happy Friday, readers! I have some big plans this weekend, starting with a bit of film/cam action for a new project I’m working on (I’ll tell you more Wednesday!). Also, tomorrow is my nephew’s birthday party (Happy 2nd, Lukey!), so I’ll be road tripping for a visit.

Sunday? I’d like to have a sit and work on my resolution chart from dear Gretchen (if you don’t know what a resolution chart is, read up on it). Perhaps with a cup of tea (sans spoon biscuit, sadly) and some daily pancakes?

Of course, I’ll be cheering on my friend Jeff for his Small Victories Hong Kong exhibit and contemplating the coolness of Ula Einstein, all while pining over this Bakunawa print at The Few Gallery.

Until Monday, dears! Have a lovely weekend.

Time for another weekend here at Design for Mankind! I’m headed to a mother/daughter banquet with my family tonight (perhaps I’ll write her a thank you note?) and will be cheering on my nephew at his baseball game tomorrow (with a picnic in cute summer sandals, maybe?)! What are your plans?

Whatever it is, try something new. Or maybe try something secretive. Call someone you love on a weird phone. Craft a plot to save the Internet. Visit an old farmhouse. And then? THEN, you can DIY a cotton candy machine.

However you slice it, enjoy! See you Monday!

Whew! Another week has flown by and spring is officially here. At least, I hope it is. I’m pretty finished with winter. Anyway, I hear rain is in the works this weekend and I couldn’t be more excited to head to the bookstore (maybe I’ll find some vintage sailor photos in a hidden book! ooh, or a Russian Criminal Tattoo Encyclopedia!) and catch up on reading. Maybe I’ll bring a few home and place them in my entryway a la Desire to Inspire. (I’d head to this shop if it were in my hometown, b/c whoa! Gorgeous!)

Or perhaps I’ll sit next to an open window and listen to the rain (my favorite thing to do!). How lovely would the morning light look with Emma Wolf’s window film? Topped off with gauzy Moondance curtains (yep, it’s a shower curtain, but I’m not picky). Lovely indeed. Especially with a mini lamp shade nearby.

Also, I’m going to spend my weekend trying to ignore this adorable floral footwear. Must. Practice. Self control. Speaking of florals, have you seen these disposable vases? Genius.

Happy weekend!

With the gorgeous weather upon us, I’ll be gallivanting about this weekend. It’s the official season of thrifting for me, so I may hit up my local shoppes for a vintage tech tray, or perhaps a cool console to transform.

And just in case my allergies act up around all that dust, I’ve got Mrs Remedy by my side.

Also on my to do list? Finally check out Kate’s new book (congrats, dear!), as well as the latest issue of Popshot Magazine. While dining on salted fudge brownies. Preferably in this henley, with these pajama bottoms. And then, of course, I’m going to e-stalk all 200 artists that will be exhibiting at The Cheaper Show.

And then? Then I’m going to leave Husband love notes all over the house.

Good weekend, yes? What are your plans?

This week was quite the doozy, yes? It’s rainy and dreary here, which is the perfect time to snuggle up to a few yummy links, right? Yes. I agree.

For starters, Google before you Tweet is funny, and sort of true, but eh. Don’t take Tweets too seriously and you’ll be fine. Although I suppose if you do Tweet something without fact-checking, you could wind up face down (yes, my new favorite blog of the week!) in a pile of shame.

Speaking of piles, I’d love to stack these totem pole cups with coffee and partake in an artful snack right about now (I wonder if the totem cup would fit in my new UBoard cupholders?). Or perhaps some toast would taste good. Under a tree. I bet that would make a fine installation for D. Billy’s site interventions.

Anyway, Design for Mankind is getting a new editorial calendar next week (just a nip/tuck… until April when the big reveal comes!). Similar to the nip/tuck of paper surgery actually, and nonetheless inspiring.

See you Monday!
